Come One Come All
Lyrics
Verse 1:
We are wonders of creation
Each a marvel on display
We are one-off variations
All unique in DNA
God has made us different creatures
In eight billion different ways
But we share our Maker’s features
‘Cause He made us for His praise
Verse 2:
You’re no accident of nature
Every freckle, every curl
Is the pride of your Creator
It’s unique in all the world
It’s precision engineering
That made you a boy or girl
Made you perfect for His treasure
Made us each a precious pearl
Chorus:
We are the Church God’s building
Come one, come all!
Living stones He’s shaping
To lay its walls
We are the spire God’s raising
And standing tall
We are His church
Come one, come all!
Bridge:
We’re notes that sing God’s harmony
United for His symphony
Each a glorious melody of praise
We’re threads that weave God’s tapestry
His palette of diversity
Different strands and colours
That unfurl God’s work of art

The Story
The challenge set for April was to write a congregational song with the unity and diversity of the church in mind. The challenged welcomed entries intended to be sung by everyone (the purposeful ‘all-age’ number), or entries that in some way helped us consider elements of our fellowship that all too often go overlooked and undervalued.
I’m very much in favour of genuine all-age songs (as opposed to children’s songs labelled as such!) so it’s no surprise I opted to go that route. But I went further and made the ‘whole church’ focus the core message of song. I hope you approve, but do let me know what you think even if not!
